EPA National Clean Diesel Campaign Continues to Fund Many Projects in the Corridor

Since 2000, the EPA has awarded over 500 grants for diesel emission reduction projects nationwide through the National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC). These grants fund the applications of clean diesel technologies on a wide array of equipment, vehicles, and vessels including school buses, long haul trucks, marine vessels and port, agriculture and construction equipment. They encompass many clean diesel technologies including retrofits, idle reduction, as well as engine repowers and upgrades and vehicle/equipment replacements.

Beginning in 2008, Clean Diesel projects have been funded through grants authorized by Title VII, Subtitle G (Sections 791 to 797) of the EPAct 2005. Under this authority, EPA awards grants (commonly called DERA grants, standing for the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act )on a competitive basis for implementation projects that achieve significant reductions in diesel emissions that improve air quality and protect public health.

West Coast Corridor states have benefited greatly form these grants. This list summarizes just the freight, locomotive and port NCDC projects in West Coast Corridor states since 2000, including the grant recipients and a summary description of the projects.
