The "Clean, Green and Smart" Best Practices Manual

Five years into the Coalition’s work, a new priority emerged: the need for response to evidence of global climate change — and transportation’s part as a source of this environmental risk and impact. This added a new and necessary element to the work program. Moreover, since goods movement and personal travel rely largely on the same transportation system and would potentially benefit from many of the same new technologies and practices, both need to be addressed where intertwined. Thus originated the "Clean, Green and Smart" Initiative.
To address this new priority, the coalition decided to gather the most promising innovations and initiatives dealing with transportaion-related impacts on the environment and climate change in a Best Practices Manual that would be issued periodically, continuously updated, and broadly disseminated.

What the Manual Covers
The Manual covers five major Best Practices categories, along with their specific benefits to goods movement, personal travel, and the transportation system:
Transportation Systems Analysis
Traveler Information Integration (TII)
Intelligent Transportation Infrastructure
Cleaner Fuels and Engines
Law & Regulation

Each initiative is presented in an accessible and consistent format:
Concept
Description (what it does, how it works)
Specifics (operational experience, data)
Status (proposed or deployed)
Financing (actual or potential)
Contact Information (principal sources)

The Manual is designed to inform and facilitate the process of adopting new transportation technologies and systems to reduce congestion and reverse transportation’s negative impact on the environment.
